Development Manager

POSITION TITLE: Development Manager

The ‘Aha Pūnana Leo is seeking an experienced Development Manager to design and execute an integrated fundraising strategy including membership, planned giving, major gifts, fundraising campaigns, business sponsorship (underwriting), grant proposals, audience services and support, fundraising events and other initiatives.

General Duties:

The Development Manager will work with the CEO and other members of the senior management team to develop funding goals and plans for ‘APL. The Development Manager will provide strategic direction to achieve ambitious contributed revenue goals and integrate fundraising efforts designed to meet the financial objectives of the organization. He or she will prepare annual and long-term development plans and evaluate plan implementation and outcomes while assuring the highest ethical and administrative standards are applied to fundraising and financial management. The Development Manager will be responsible for the direction and support for ‘APL’s fundraising activity portfolio, including drives and selected special events. The Development Manager will also drive efforts to secure grant funding as necessary and appropriate and will also build alliances and partnerships with other organizations to facilitate long-term growth and sustainability of the organization’s work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have working knowledge of the Hawaiian language and commit to pursuing fluency in the manner and timeline suitable to the organization’s needs and the Board’s approval.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • 3+ years of nonprofit administrative experience
  • Demonstrated ability to research, prospect, cultivate, and manage major donors and a range of funding opportunities.
  • Strong ability to organize effectively; delegate responsibility; identify and assess opportunities and problems and enact quick, well-informed decisions
  • Stellar communication skills with a variety of audiences
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post BA degree in a related field
  • Prior participation in Hawaiian Medium Education programming
  • 5+ years of senior nonprofit management/administrative experience
  • Proven track record of achieving revenue targets and deep knowledge of fundraising practices and ethics.

  • Salary will commensurate with education, experience and meeting stated qualifications. Compensation will include health insurance and PTO.
