Chief Marketing Officer

POSITION TITLE: Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)

The ‘Aha Pūnana Leo is seeking an experienced Senior Manager to oversee the planning, development and execution of APLʻs branding, marketing and communication strategy.

General Duties:

The CMO will work with the other members of the executive management team (CEO, COO, CDO) to identify internal and external communications opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them. The CMO will lead the collaborative development and implementation of strategies to increase awareness and relevance of the ʻAha Pūnana Leo brand, including audience growth and development, advocacy, media relations and crisis management. The CMO will also oversee the day-to-day activities of the communications and marketing function including budgeting, planning, and staff oversight.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing in the Hawaiian language and commit to pursuing fluency in the manner and timeline suitable to the organization’s needs and the Board’s approval.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration or other related field
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate to a wide range of stakeholders, including employees, board members, ʻAPL’s target communities served, various types of media, influential members of the business community, the press and the public.
  • 3+ years of communications and/or marketing experience
  • 3+ years of management experience
  • Strong ability to organize effectively; delegate responsibility; identify and assess opportunities and problems and enact quick, well-informed decisions

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post BA degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration or other related field
  • Prior participation in Hawaiian Medium Education programming
  • 5+ years of senior nonprofit management/operations experience
  • The CMO will be engaged as a contracted employee. Commensurate with education and experience, meeting stated qualifications, and further negotiation, compensation will include health insurance and PTO and a annual minimum salary of $85,000.
