Chief Executive Officer

POSITION TITLE: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
REPORTING TO: The Board of Directors
DIRECT REPORTS: COO, CDO, CMO

The ‘Aha Pūnana Leo is seeking an experienced Executive to direct and manage the administrative and programmatic operations of the ‘Aha Pūnana Leo. The right candidate must be ready to build and model our company culture, provide inspired leadership to our executive team, establish a great working relationship with the Board of Directors and set course for company strategy.

General Duties:

The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure articulation of strategy and mission while also setting organizational goals aligned with the strategic direction and work systematically to meet those goals. The CEO will lead and work with the executive management team (COO, CDO, CMO) to optimize the reach and impact of the Pūnana Leo Preschools, the organization’s core program, and to also begin the development of new contexts, programs, partnerships and business initiatives in pursuit of Hawaiian language normalization. The CEO will also oversee the development and management of resources and administrative operations sufficient to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Able to communicate clearly – verbally and in writing – in the Hawaiian language and maintain fluency in and through the administrative and programmatic operations and business of the organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Education Administration, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of senior management experience
  • Prior participation in Hawaiian Medium Education programming
  • Strong ability to organize effectively; delegate responsibility; identify and assess opportunities and problems and enact quick, well-informed decisions
  • Stellar communication skills with a variety of audiences
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post BA degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Education Administration, Law, Finance, Economics or its equivalent
  • Prior leadership role in Hawaiian Medium Education programming
  • 7+ years of senior nonprofit management experience

  • The CEO will be engaged as a Board contracted employee. Commensurate with education and experience, meeting stated qualifications, and further negotiation, compensation will include health insurance and PTO and a annual minimum salary of $90,000.
