Consortium

Over the past two decades the consortium partnership between the ‘Aha Pünana Leo and the entity today known as Ka Haka ‘Ula o Ke‘elikölani College of Hawaiian Language of the University of Hawai’i at Hilo has worked tirelessly fostering the growth and stability of a total Hawaiian Medium Educational (HME) System in the State of Hawai‘i. The public-private consortium has allowed for rapid and efficient deployment of resources to meet the needs of both public and private HME systems in the State of Hawai‘i. Some of the more important accomplishments of the partnership include creating, producing and distributing curriculum materials free of charge throughout the State; advocating for and developing a HME laboratory school program, a HME teacher training and certification program, and a HME Master’s Degree Program. The successes demonstrated in programs developed by the consortium led to the approval of Doctorate Degree Program to the Hawaiian Language College.
