What is the curriculum like?
Our online classes are based on the textbook Nā Kai ‘Ewalu, written by
Dr. William H. Wilson and Professor Kauanoe Kamanā of Ka Haka ‘Ula O Ke‘elikōlani
College of Hawaiian language. It has been modified heavily for online instruction.
Nā Kai ‘Ewalu focuses on the grammatical structures, vocabulary and cultural
concepts that you would encounter in everyday life. Each chapter includes
a vocabulary list, short conversational phrases, a sample dialog between
two people, new grammatical concepts and practice exercises, as well as
review assignments.
We currently offer classes at the beginning and intermediate levels.

upon entry.
About the Instructors
The classes are taught by Hawaiian language speakers who have previously
taught or who are currently teaching Hawaiian language and culture classes
in communities where they reside. The instructors will vary as we are trying
to train as many instructors in the use of distance learning technologies.
Instructors for the current classes will be ‘Alika McNicoll, Kainani Kahaunaele, Hiapo Perreira, Mikihala Mahi, Kēhaulani Shintani and ‘Ānela De Rego.
