Hō‘īnana Hou Project

The ‘Aha Pūnana Leo’s Hō‘īnana Hou project focuses on activities designed to increase the level of Hawaiian conversational and literacy skills in the home and community. Hō‘īnana Hou means “to give renewed life” as language revitalization efforts have been in existence for over 20 years, and its growth is felt in the home and the workplace.

Hō’īnana Hou includes Hawaiian language curriculum, learning materials, teacher education training, a community awareness campaign, and two educational broadcast series to watch for next summer. The first, Hawai‘i Mauli Ola (The Foundation of Hawaiian Living), is a video magazine series presenting an exciting, lively mix of modern-day people living and speaking in Hawaiian, while providing a unique perspective on life in Hawai‘i through the Hawaiian language.

‘Āina ‘Ōiwi, also in development, is an educational video series targeted for promoting the development of literacy in the Hawaiian language. The family program series will be entirely in Hawaiian and will include animation, live action, and interviews with children and families and will focus on practical mathematical and science concepts.

Check back in the future for programming information.
