Chief Operating Officer

POSITION TITLE: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

The ‘Aha Pūnana Leo is seeking an experienced Senior Manager to administer and execute the operational directives set by the CEO and the Board of Directors. The candidate will ensure that the company has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures and systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency.

General Duties:

The COO will work with the other members of the executive management team (CEO, CDO, CMO) to operationalize the plan and meet strategic directions and goals, with particular emphasis on operational policies and directives to achieve efficacious operations. The COO will direct and oversee the organization’s fiscal staff and operations, including but not limited to, budgeting, reporting, and auditing. He or she will work closely with CEO to prepare annual budgets, complete risk analysis on potential investments and initiatives, advise the Board of Directors with regard to investment risk and return and oversee and manage the organization’ asset portfolio. The COO will also oversee the organization’s human resource staff and functions, including but not limited to payroll, hiring practices, benefit disbursement, and overall personnel policy. And the COO will develop tools and measurements for assessing operational efficiency that ensures a positive “rating” is maintained and improved.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have working knowledge of the Hawaiian language and commit to pursuing fluency in the manner and timeline suitable to the organization’s needs and the Board’s approval.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics or its equivalent
  • 3+ years of senior management experience
  • Strong financial and accounting background, including an understanding of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management and general finance and budgeting.
  • Experience with budget management, public accounting, and cash flow.
  • Strong ability to organize effectively; delegate responsibility; identify and assess opportunities and problems and enact quick, well-informed decisions
  • Stellar communication skills with a variety of audiences
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post BA degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics or its equivalent
  • Prior participation in Hawaiian Medium Education programming
  • 5+ years of senior nonprofit management/operations experience
  • The COO will be engaged as a contracted employee. Commensurate with education and experience, meeting stated qualifications, and further negotiation, compensation will include health insurance and PTO.
